A Taste of the Senses V: Godai + Sacrament Saturnalia 2026
A TASTE OF THE SENSES
Series V: GODAI
21 March 2026
Melbourne, Australia
A Taste of the Senses V: GODAI marked the fifth edition of Benjamin Skepper’s international multi-sensory event series and the most ambitious presentation to date.
Drawing on the Japanese concept of Godai, the five elements of earth, water, fire, wind and void, the evening united a five-course Japanese degustation by Komeyui with live performance, spatial audio, immersive lighting and a newly composed five-tone Genetic Music work created specifically for the occasion.
Following three consecutive sold-out editions in Melbourne, the series expanded from its origins inside a former Fitzroy printing factory into a major civic monument, demonstrating the growing appetite for artist-led cultural experiences that sit at the intersection of hospitality, technology, music and contemporary art.
Developed in partnership with L-Acoustics, Norwest and Creative Technology, GODAI continued contrapuntal’s exploration of immersive listening environments, communal gathering and the future of spatial sound.
The evening formed part of contrapuntal’s ongoing studio fundraising campaign and broader vision to establish a permanent home for sound, art, technology and wellness in Melbourne and beyond.
SACRAMENT SATURNALIA
21 March 2026
Melbourne, Australia
Following the dinner salon, guests and audiences gathered for Sacrament Saturnalia, a large-scale listening experience combining Genetic Music sound bath, live audiovisual performance and electronic music culture.
Presented as a three-part journey of listening, reflection and release, the event featured a communal Genetic Music sound bath, a new solo audiovisual performance by Benjamin Skepper, and an extended late-night program of DJs and immersive spatial sound.
Together, GODAI and Sacrament Saturnalia represented the culmination of a year-long creative development process that would ultimately inform LUMINESCENCE, an evolving live audiovisual performance work exploring immersive sound, deep listening and the transformative power of music.
